Cape Town offers a lot of attractions and provides wonderful settings for many beautiful wonders and magnificent seascapes and exotic vistas. It has a range of attractions to offer such as Camps Bay,Clifton, Llandudno, Bantry Bay, Hout Bay etc.
Castle of Good Hope will be one of the things which you certainly don’t want to miss. It supposed to be the oldest structure of South Africa. It was built in between 1666 – 1679, immediately after the arrival of the Dutch settlers, to serve as defensive fort.
The entrance of the Castle is a unique example of 17th century Dutch classicism. It was built in accordance with European principles to protect the outside walls with strong bastions from cross fire. It is in pentagon in shape with five corners bulwarks about 10 meters high wall made up of massive boulders. |

The castle accommodates many attractions such as the William Fehr Collection, paintings of the Dutch period, antique furniture etc. It also exhibits military museum which shows the history of the castle and the colonization of the town. Inside the castle there is a restaurant and a bar. The castle remains open daily from 9am to 4pm but it remains closed from December 25 to January 1. Every day from 10 am to12pm the castle guard performs the ceremony of the keys which means the castle is open. |
